Scuba Divers’ Sporting Club
Association
The year is 1954.
A group of university students interested
in underwater activities decided
to make continue their passion to the sea
within the framework of a club.
The club which they established due to this
aim is Scuba Divers’ Sporting Club Association
which is not only the first scuba divers sporting
club of Turkey
but
also one of the first among them in the world
and
is now known as ‘BSK’ in the society of underwater.
BSK has not only remained as a sportive diving
club in favour of public and it has also provided great contributions to
the divers unit of Turkish Naval Forces to adopt from surface supported
diving to scuba diving. The scuba-divers trained in BSK realized many useful
activities in our naval forces both as being instructors and divers.
A bar, a restaurant, a classroom, tank filling
units, a wharf for the boats to come up and a swimming pool which is used
both for education and social activities,
exist in the foundations belonged to the club.
BSK which gives shelter to a whole diving
school under its body with its oxigen sets,
PC supported simulation models used in BC,
regulation sets,first-aid and CPR educations,
tank enough for 60 people to dive and tank
filling system with three compressors;
opens diving and first-aid courses for more
than a group of 350 people every year.
60 instructors are working in BSK Diving School
in which diving and first-aid certificates
are given according to the CMAS, BSK, DAN,
NAVI-ASHI systems.
All the instructors are working as volunteers
and don’t get any fee from the club.
All these instructors who are doctors, architecturers,
engineers, economists,
and etc in their proffesional life;
give theoric lessons in the evenings during
the week and pool and sea courses
in practice at the weekend.
In BSK, diving and first-aid courses are also
given to the personnel of public security units. Private speciality sessions
are opened to the fire-brigade, police, and gendarmery stuff,
and in these courses, lectures are given by
specialist instructors about the subjects like diving
to the polluted waters with NBC materials,search&recovery
and underwater criminology. Moreover a group of our instructors are giving
lectures at
Ýstanbul University in the department of underwater
technology.
In 1999, courses for preperating mixed gasses
and Trimix mixed gas courses with
TDI system were organized by bringing instructors
from Australia.
To increase their diving experience, high
sea divings are realized
two weekends in every month under the supervision
of our instructors for
our students who took their certificates.
Since 1993,
‘Living Marmara Despite Everything’ Underwater
Photo/Video Competition
has been organized.
The aim is to take the attentions of the society
to the pollution in Marmara Sea
and invite society to be more sensible.
BSK, has always been an advanced guard
in every subject about underwater in Turkey
and will continue to be so.
Although it is a scuba divers sporting club
BSK gives education in water sports like swimming, underwater rugby and
exc.,
swimming branches in order to be useful to
the young people also above water.
By the competition teams it establishes, BSK
achieves new successes every day.
